Cylinder Net

Cylinder Net

Tonight I added a cylinder net to my website. + a definition of what a net is :)

I’m rather chuffed with the way this one came out. It’s the first time I’ve managed to get cartoon teeth looking right.

cheers

PEBKAC

Dear World,

A couple of my systems administrator friends have just had a few tough days fixing stuff that should have never been broken in the first place ;)

Here’s a little cartoon I knocked up for them to hang above their desk to refer to in times of stress.

PEBKAC and the I-D-TEN-T Form! hehehehe

New Numeration Game for 100 - 1 000

Posted by Adrian on Apr-9-08

Numeration Game Board

My new math game is ideal for teaching numeration, subtraction, addition and estimation strategies. It offers heaps of opportunity for ‘teachable moments’ but its power comes from discussing the mental strategies which are most effiecient for arriving at correct answers.

Feel free to download it, print it out and hand it around staff working on these concepts.

cheers

Adrian

PS Thanks Cath for the ‘hairy man’ - all the kids I played the game with wanted this board :)

Rectangular Prism Net

Rectangular Prism Net

Less than a month after posting my first colourful 3d nets I’ve already achieved position 2 for the search terms ’square pyramid net’ & ‘tetrahedron net’. So I’m thinking that there were a few other teachers out there looking for good resources for teaching 3d shapes :)

This fact coupled with the plethora of other requests I’ve had via email to make more nets I’ve knocked up one for a ‘rectangular prism’.

Mr 9 constructed this one for me this afternoon & approved so here is my new rectangular prism download.

Enjoy!

Adrian

PS If someone makes a mobile of all my nets would you mind sending me a digital photo?

Killing My Blog in a Connected World ;)

Posted by Adrian on Apr-6-08
Yesterday I killed my blog big time while trying to upgrade to the latest Wordpress version!

Let me assure you that there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth as 170 posts disappeared into the abyss of Cyberspace.! :)

So once the terror subsided somewhat I got busy - emails traversed the globe between BlueHost and myself. Eventually Twitter came to my rescue when Clay in Seoul put me in touch via Skype with a 17 y/o system administrator in the US. Kevin was my saviour! He found my blog backup and restored it. Now all I have to do is to doctor the theme.

Don’t you love living in a connected world!

So…

Rule Number One - Backup Your Work!

Rule Number Two - Backup Your Work!

Rule Number Three - Backup Your Work!

& RTFM = Read The Manual!

Thanks Clay & Thanks Kevin

Stress Reduction :)

Posted by Adrian on Apr-4-08

Stress ReductionFor the last 6 months or so I’ve been thinking about creating a website based on funny little jokes kids have told me over the years and anecdotes from my teaching career. Funny thing is I’ve been a little too stressed to create it :-)

Tonight I’ve finally created my first cartoon using my brand new copy of Comic Life for the PC, my Wacom tablet, Inkscape and my rather old version of Photoshop.

I hope you get a chuckle.
