New Comic Strip Creator Tool

Comic Strip Creation Tools

A huge thanks to Sharon in Scotland for suggesting stripcreator.com to go with the others free online comic strip generators listed on my site. It certainly has a lot more options than some of my older tools.

As an introductory activity to comic strip creation I have the kids bring in the ‘lamest’ joke they can find. They then have to create a comic strip out of it. It is an excellent way to discuss pun. For the ‘the usual suspects’ that don’t bring you a joke, Yahooligans has a really good lame joke section that they can peruse.

Here are a couple of ideas from my webpage for using sites like these:

- Use the websites provided to produce a short comic strip about something you are passionate about.

- Using the websites above create a comic strip of a joke that will make an adult laugh. NB you will need to use a clever play on words rather than something that will make a child laugh.

- In a group of 4 convert a fable into a comic strip. Hints - You will need to sub-task a lot and be very clear on the design decisions you all make.

Make Your Students Laugh

To those members of Yr 10 who are actually doing their homework tonight, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a creation from http://www.jibjab.com/ that surpasses the portrait of me in S2. :)

Have Fun

Students as Comedians

Studying word play can be heaps of fun when you get the students to write and perform their own scripts. On my Funny Jokes Comedy Skit page I’ve included the task brief plus a few tips and tricks for keeping it tasteful ;) NB these are tips that I’ve learnt by doing this activity with 5 different classes.

This is a great task to help you stay sane towards the end of term when you’re getting a little stressed.

Last Comic Strip… I promise

COmic Strip Creation Tools
I was working with another class today who loved the idea of creating their own online comic strips. Here is my demonstration of PUN… I will drop in their URL of the kids’ work when a few more of them get their really lame jokes to their blog accounts.

Comic Strip Creation

Posted by Adrian on May-16-07

The growth of a child’s sense of humour is something that I love to watch, foster and corrupt just a little :)

For a homework task I set two tasks-

1. Find the ‘lamest’ joke that you can. One that will make the audience moan because it is so bad.
2. I then set them the task of finding a joke that will make an adult laugh i.e. me :)

NB I also set the proviso that they must be comfortable telling this joke to the principal and their parents :) This condition tends to keep the humour above the navel. hehehe

How to Create Online Comic Strips

Posted by Adrian on May-15-07
There are a variety of online tools out there on the Web that enable you to have your students quickly produce comic strips. Check out the resources I’ve compiled here to help you on the road to creating your own online comic strips.

One of my favourite activities is to have the kids create a comic strip of the lamest joke they have ever heard.

Oh yeah… and thanks to the recent thread on the Oz Teachers newsgroup that provided the inspiration for this post :)

Cheers

Does and Ipod Blend?

Posted by Adrian on Apr-26-07
Today my Ipod has died :( It is no more and I will miss it so.

No more podcast listening in the car on the way to work. No more listening to music while working late into the night. Oh the pain of having to get up and put on a CD ;)

But just what does one do with a dead Ipod?

cheers
