In schools a poem is often ‘finished’ when  it is ‘published’. Publishing often involves ‘typing it up’ ensuring the text is centred, has a lovely font (that usually takes ages to select), has a nice piece of clip art to support the text and some sort of clip art border.

The poem is then either added to a wall display for a few weeks or put into a display folder to be sent home at the end of the term. Oh, and it often has a shiny sticker on it. I guess what I’m trying to say here is that there are many other creative ways to celebrate poetry.

The poem above was a joint construction between my son and I using this poetry scaffold from my website. The audio production has been done with the free software  Audacity and using sounds from Soundsnap.com

…and if you are wondering, the spooky voice was achieved by dropping the pitch of my voice by -20.

We had a great chat and covered all sorts of stuff including  the growth & nature of my website, personal learning goals, creative process and a few pieces of software

Tonight Mr 9 and I played ‘soundstories’. I set the limit of 20 minutes in which we had to create a sound story entitled, ‘Dracul enters’. The only tools we were allowed to use Audacity and soundsnap.com

PS I’ve used edublogs.tv to get the little MP3 player happening. I just need to know how not to have it start by default

Looks like we might have to abandon embedding the player and just put a link to each show.

Let’s see if this works.

Then my Ipod died I was lost. Now courtesy of Ebay I have a new one. I bought a 30gig one for about $70 cheaper than I could in any of the shops.

Now I’m back to downloading my favourite podcasts and playing them at my son’s soccer practice and in the car on the way to work. I then pop on some music while working on my website or marking at my desk at school. The Ipod has meant that I can take some professional development anywhere.

exercise that utilises drama and play building big time as a learning strategy. Essentially two pretentious people review a book that the class might like to read. The book review has many challenges that expand the children’s awareness of vocabulary so make sure you have some dictionaries and thesauruses on hand

Discuss ‘rising to a challenge’ and enjoy the task.
