Every year I have students create "me bags". They don't necessarily have to be bags. The idea is to have students find a "container" at home and fill it with items that will tell their classmates about them. One student was a drummer, so he put his items in a snare drum. One girl used a shoe box and decorated it too. I included an ice cream scoop in mine because I love ice cream. Some include pictures, souvenires, or even books. It's all about personal preference. I like the idea of a personal poem. Anything to get kids writing and having fun doing it! It would also be a great bulletin board idea.

Another project we do to start the year is make a classroom puzzle. I give each student a sturdy cardboard puzzle piece and then they decorate them for our bulletin board which read "we all fit in". The students love displaying their pieces in the hallway.

PS I am very new to blogging so I hope these ideas are helpful. Good luck to everyone! :)
