Educational ScreensaverI love using screensavers to
generate thought and wonder and there are some excellent screensavers out there.

A couple of days ago I discovered ‘Cities’. Cities is an animated Earth that lights
up the major cities of the world and displays the local time and population down the right hand side.

Cities is great for leaving on your laptop and then demonstrating wonder to the kids when
it kicks in ie ‘Gee, I wonder what’s in………….

?’ :) and then go off to find out.

Check out a few of the screensavers I use in my classrooms.

cheers

Adrian

  1. RobertDS Said,

I used to have the SETI@home screen saver running on all of my computers both in my computer classes and in my science classroom/lab.

It really did spark a teachable moment at the first of the year. Then, kids who did not notice it at first would ask about it later in the year. Funny, how many things that I taught just went into the either, yet most of the kids remembered what SETI was and what the project was all about.

  2. maierss Said,

Thanks for sharing these. I confess that I also often leave interesting things out for kids to stumble upon. Using Google Earth to find someone’s favorite fishing or hunting spot really got them going this fall!
