Jackson Pollock Without the Mess

Posted by Adrian on Apr-26-07
I find that you can get a great deal of learning about what Art means to a student by exploring the work of Jackson Pollock.

Over the years I have set up a swing in the centre of my room and had the students splashed paint around much to the disdain of the clearers and one or two parents :) Mind you, there have been a few teachers over the years that chime in with, ‘That’s not art!’ and ‘Art is what you’d hang over you fire place.’ I’m looking at you Mrs M and Mr I :)

The other day I discovered that there are now online sites that let you create artworks in the style of Jackson Pollock without getting paint on your classroom floor or school uniforms.

Yes I know that paint on the floor and the walls and the shoes and the socks is all part of the fun, but hey… don’t get the cleaners or the parents off side ;)

cheers

Adrian

PS The irony of dicotomy between the ideals of Abstract Expressionism and a nice clean classroom are not lost on me. hehehehehe
