I’ve just received word from the Expanding Learning Horizons Conference organisers that my  session is completely booked out. Sort of makes one feel all warm and fuzzy inside :)

Lament not though educators of Melbourne … due to popular demand Dr Jim and I are going to organise another workshop before we leave Victoria. I’ll keep you posted, but it looks like the additional workshop will be held on Sept 4 so clear a space in your diary!

cheers

More Productive and Creative uses of Information and Communication Technologies in the Modern

A year in the ICT world is a long time and this session embraces this fact and sends a message to delegates that change is far from overwhelming, it is essential and exciting.

At the session’s core is a ‘Hands On, Minds On’ approach designed to give teachers ‘just a brief feel’ of the variety and power of freely available educational software and web tools. Intermeshed within the exploration of tools are demonstrations and experimentation with of a variety of processes that I know work in classroom situations to integrate ICTs into all areas of curriculum in highly creative and engaging way e.g. co-learning, scaffolding, creative processes, design briefs, possible organisational strategies and personal goal setting.

Course participants will leave this session with a plethora of great teaching ideas in their tool-box, an incredible amount of inspiration and realistic goals to implement back in their schools and classrooms.

Software (Take a deep breath and brace yourself)

How to Co-learn Software (Scratch), Awe & Wonder in Science Ed (Microsoft’s Worldwide Telescope), Digital Story Telling (Comic Life, Inkscape, Photostory 3) A Step Beyond Powerpoint (Microsoft Producer), Podcasting – from initial concept to published on the Internet in ½ and hour (Audacity and Pod-o-Matic), Tips & Tricks for Successful Clay Animation (Monkey Jam), How to Make your Blog Stand Out (http://adrianbruce.com/teacher-toolbox & Classblogmeister.com), Functional and Creative Photography (Scanners, Online Tools & Paint.Net) Using design briefs for engaging & challenging Computer Aided Design (Google Sketchup or Lego Digital Designer) Mind Mapping as a powerful thinking and organising tool (C-Map), Integrating Digital Music Making (Ejay & Ordrumbox), Online art creation (Mr Picasso Head and a few others) – NB the session also aims to be flexible enough that delegates can explore any software that I mention throughout the day if they feel it is something they would like to check out.
